So there I was, four videos in, and worried I was losin’ my mojo.
I mean, what was I gonna do next? Did I even have a fifth in me?
Was I losing it? Was I stagnating?
I mean, what a journey!
But, I mean, two more videos still to go!
Frankly, I was worried.
I was worried, and I needed inspiration.
And sometimes, when you really need inspiration,
you just have to play a turn-of-the-century guitar
in a turn-of-the-century winery.
So that’s what I did.
And here’s what happened:
The Days of Wine & Venison
Do you remember our first date, back in 1988?
I took you dinin’ at a diner, then we stayed up drinkin’ late
at a bar where the jukebox only played Bon Jovi’s “Bad Medicine”
Oh, we rocked and we rolled back in The Days of Wine and Venison
Babe, do you remember that morning by the river?
When we went down for a snack and then I laid down for a nap?
You just sat there right beside me reading poems by Alfred Lord Tennyson
Oh, we were so romantic back in The Days of Wine and Venison
If I recall it right it was a warm September night
when we went down to the Improv to try and catch Steven Wright
but we got there late from dinner and all we got to see was Sam Kinison
Oh, it was laughter all the time back in The Days of Wine and Venison
We weren’t Rebels Without A Cause we were no Beat Generation
we weren’t CBGB’s punks or Deadheads at Terrapin Station
we was more like Groucho Marx vowin’ not to join a club that would let us in
Oh, we were beautifully curmudgeonly back in The Days of Wine and Venison
I remember playin’ stickball in the church parking lot
and I recall that broken window from your line drive shot
it was just the kind of jam you’d find Hank Ketcham puttin’ Dennis the Menace in
Oh, we were innocent as children back in The Days of Wine and Venison
Oh, we started out on Cisco, then the Tail of Yello
But just look at us now drinkin’ decanted Monte Bello
and we talkin’ that old-school winespeak, all about the “masculine” and “feminine”
Oh, we are soft and we are structured in The Days of Wine and Venison
