“Check Out” a 1977 Monte Bello from The Library!

Did you know we have a Library Wine Page on our website? We do! It’s here: Library Wine

“Library Wine”

It’s a term we use all the time, but when properly considered, it’s a somewhat strange term; depending on what you consider a “library” to be.

A place to “borrow” things?

I can tell you what, I sure wouldn’t mind “borrowing” some library wine! Though I suppose the reality of having to return the checked-out item in its “original” condition is somewhat prohibitive, as regards enjoying the full measure of the offering.

A source for information?

Well, I suppose so; Ridge labels are certainly informative, and, well, tasting wine in “professional” fashion (i.e. see, swirl, smell, sip, spit) is definitely “educational!” (Don’t we prefer the term “learning” as opposed to “drinking?” Yes we do!)

A community center?

Wine can certainly be communal, and a good wine cellar is a pretty fine guarantor of good company.

But in the end, the use of “library” for wine seems to mean something altogether again. Let’s look at good old dictionary.com:

[lahy-brer-ee, -bruh-ree, -bree] Show IPA

noun, plural li·brar·ies.

a place set apart to contain books, periodicals, and other material for reading, viewing, listening, study, or reference, as a room, set of rooms, or building where books may be read or borrowed.

a public body organizing and maintaining such an establishment.

a collection of manuscripts, publications, and other materials for reading, viewing, listening, study, or reference.

a collection of any materials for study and enjoyment, as films, musical recordings, or maps.

a commercial establishment lending books for a fixed charge; a lending library.

#4 is the one that makes the most sense to me: a collection of materials for study and enjoyment.

If you feel so inclined, check out the Library Wine Page on our website: you could certainly do worse for study and enjoyment! As but one example, did you know we have Library Monte Bello available going back to the 1977 vintage?

I’ve tasted that wine … ahem, I mean, I’ve studied that wine, and it is definitely enjoyable!
