The Very Mysterious Music of the Very Mysterious “P Noh”

I have received a surprisingly steady parade of questions lately, concerning the music on many of our recent YouTube videos

What is the music, where did it come from, and most specifically, who, or what, is “P Noh?”

I was speaking with a member recently, who related to me a conversation he had recently with another member, in which the other member commented on one such video by querying, essentially, “how is it that the music fits so perfectly with the video?”

The answer, of course, is that the music was specifically composed FOR the video.

The video they were discussing is entitled “Planting Lone Tree Hill” (which can be found here), and the soundtrack is a composition entitled “V.”

“V” was commissioned by 4488: A Ridge Blog, and the piece was written, performed, recorded, and produced by P Noh.

So, who is P Noh?

Well, much like Darkman, she is everywhere, and she is nowhere. She is everyone, and no one.

In all seriousness, P Noh is a partner like, ideally, all our partners are.

Ridge Vineyards is forever and always a living, dynamic enactment of reconciliation, an in-the-moment bridging of the high and the low, the contemporary and the classic, the science and the mojo. Ridge Vineyards is a traditionalist in the modern world, ahead of a time it is forever behind.

This is what we look for in our partners as well, be they literary or culinary, oenophilic or bibliographic, musical or potable, edible or aural.

We look for those with one foot in the past, and one in the future. We look for those who honor tradition by contributing to progress. We look for those who embrace the simple to achieve the complex. We look for those who have practiced and paid their dues, so as to be able to act without knowledge. We look for those for whom craft is the gateway to magic, and instinct is the compass for the journey.

Hopefully, we enact this ourselves, and hopefully, we honor and highlight this in our partners.

In P Noh, we feel we have found just this sort of rarefied enactment, and accordingly, it is to P Noh that we are returning again and again to achieve the singular soundtrack to myriad of our visions.

  1. Dark(wo)man. Mysterious. Could one say that P Noh is “noir”?
