But probably my favorite experience of the evening was talking shop with Justin Hall of NK’ MIP Cellars. Talking irrigation, bud break, minimum till, and more. And what a story they have!

Pronounced “in-ka-meep,” the winery is the first in North America to be aboriginally owned and operated. Overlooking the shores of Osoyoos Lake in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, the winery sits on natural desert land surrounded by the stunning contrast of sagebrush and vineyards.

Using grapes from Band’s own 30+ year-old Inkameep Vineyard, Senior Winemaker Randy Picton and Osoyoos Indian Band Assistant Winemaker Justin Hall produce wines in three tiers: Winemakers Series, Qwam Qwmt and Mer’r’iym tiers.

The Canadian Wine Awards 2012 “BC Winery of the Year.” (Nk’ Mip Cellears also clinched Wine Access Magazine’s runner-up for Best Winery in Canada.)

Their offering tonight was …

And also was …

And there was still more to be poured …

And music to be played …
