#VineWatch13: Week 4!

Steady as she goes for our vines this week; our Lytton Springs vine has been pruned, and is now settling back into its pre-spring routine, whereas our Monte Bello vine is still to go under the clippers; I’m told we’re about two weeks away at this point, but stay tuned!

And in just writing the sentence above, it occurs to me that every time I write about these lovely vines, I get irritated about how to refer to them: “it” seems far too impersonal, almost demeaning, but arbitrarily assigning gender seems odd; is one a she, the other a he? Are they both male? Both female?

And to just keep calling them “vine” seems kind of … well … boring. The vine did this, the vine did that …

So, perhaps we should give them names?

And perhaps we should have YOU give them names?

In fact, perhaps we should have a CONTEST for you to give them names?

Whaddya think?

Just look …

Shall you name them? Should we have a contest? Would YOU win?

  1. Enjoying #vinewatch. On the subject of naming, I vaguely recall once reading about a farmer who extended names to all of his milk cows to help increase productivity. Researchers later did a study on the subject. I don’t know if the vines would yield more (or better) fruit, but it might be fun to adopt them.

  2. Brilliant Jeff, brilliant!
