Independence Resplendence

Independence Day for the USA falls on a Wednesday this year. Some may see this as a disappointment. Challenging to pull off a proper BBQ on a Wednesday.

At Ridge, we see this as an opportunity. Not one, but two weekends to celebrate!

Accordingly, we’re bookending the holiday with two fantastic events, one at each of our Estates.

On Saturday, June 30th, at Monte Bello, we’ll be hosting our annual “Zins, Blends, & BBQ” event.

This is not something  you want to miss.

The premise? Each year, one very special chef is selected to provide four styles of BBQ to pair with four of our Zinfandels. Three of the styles are to be modeled on known regional iterations. The fourth is a challenge to the chef: If Northern California were to have its own regional style of BBQ, what would it be? Your job as guests of the event? Taste and Enjoy!

This year, we have selected Daniel Cote of The Chef’s Chateau to be our chef, and we are thrilled! Over a series of VERY intensive tasting sessions, we have now landed on our menu, and I share it with you now:

Kansas City-style charred free-range chicken thighs

w/ mustard & bacon potato salad

paired w/ 2010 Ridge Vineyards Paso Robles Zinfandel

“Northern California-style” Smoked Seitan,  in Carmichael reduction sauce

served in hand-made corn tortillas w/ avocados, crème fraiche, and pickled heirloom carrots

served w/ 2009 Ridge Vineyards Carmichael Zinfandel

(vegetarian)

North Carolina-style pulled Duroc pork butt

w/ simple slaw

paired w/ 2010 Ridge Vineyards East Bench Zinfandel

16-Hour smoked Texas-style grass-fed brisket

w/ burnt-end pinto beans

paired w/ 2009 Ridge Vineyards York Creek Zinfandel

Yeah, that’s gonna be so good. So good.

If you’re interested in attending, there are still a few (and I do mean only a few!) tickets left. To find out more, please click here.

As noted above, the Zin & BBQ event at Monte Bello constitutes exactly one half of our Independence Day celebration. The other half commences that following weekend at Lytton Springs. Saturday, July 7th, we will be hosting our annual Farm to Grill event at Lytton Springs!

Nothing but delicious wines paired with foods from some of our very favorite local Sonoma producers. Dig these specs:

These wonderful dishes will be paired with a selection of Ridge wines:

BBQ Lamb Sliders

Braised Hanger Steak Spiedini

Slow Roasted Suckling Pig Pasta

Pacific Salmon & Corn Chowder

Grilled Mushroom Flatbreads

Sustainable, fresh & organic ingredients supplied by these local producers:

CK Lamb (Healdsburg, CA)

Marin Sun Farms (Point Reyes, CA)

Imwalle Farms & Gardens (Santa Rosa, CA)

Triple T Farms (Boyes Hot Springs, CA)

Gourmet Mushrooms (Sebastopol, CA)

Yeah, that’s gonna be so good. So good. For more information, and to find out about purchasing tickets, please click here.

It’s good to be independent, so exercise your freedom of choice, and join us at one or both of these amazing food & wine events!
